Man Killed After Truck Collapsed on Top of Him in Mercer County

Gary Landis of Given, West Virginia (WV) was working on his tractor trailer trying to fix the rear axle brakes when one of the worst possible scenarios came to fruition. The truck apparently lurched forward and collapsed on top of him, according to wnstv.com. Mr. Landis died as a result.
I want to send my sympathies out to Mr. Landis’ family. Losing a loved one is never easy, but it’s especially tough when the loss of life is so sudden and unexpected.
We do not know for sure what caused the truck to suddenly lurch forward. Most of the time, when brakes are being worked on, a jack stand is used to raise the truck to allow an individual to get below the vehicle to make repairs. If Mr. Landis used a jack stand, an important question that needs to be answered is – did the jack stand have a defect or malfunction?
Unfortunately, this is not the first time a truck driver was killed trying to make repairs on their vehicle. A man in Evansville, Indiana (IN) was crushed while working on his pickup truck when the dump bed on the back of the vehicle fell on him, according to courierpress.com.
These types of tragic truck accidents provide support for the notion that making repairs on a large vehicle like a pickup truck or tractor trailer should be done with at least two people so if something happens, there is someone at the scene able to help, or at least call for help.
