Injuries Pile Up in Chain-Reaction Crash Following Tractor-Trailer Wreck on I-64

By Randy Appleton, Truck Accident Injury Victims’ Attorney in Virginia

Details are still emerging, but news outlets are reporting that a single-vehicle tractor-trailer crash on I-64 in York County, Virginia (VA), led to a chain reaction of wrecks that left several injured. WAVY-TV 10 noted that police did not specify how serious the injuries suffered in the collisions  at interstate milepost 238 near Williamsburg were, but it seems likely that all could have been avoided had the commercial truck not had the first accident.

Also unclear is what caused the truck driver to crash, or the drivers in the vehicles following behind to wreck. Poor road conditions following a snow storm and hard freeze during the overnight hours of February 11-12, 2012, may have played a primary role, but icy pavement does not excuse people behind the wheel from liability for causing accidents and injuries.

Anyone injured in the chain-reaction crash who finds himself or herself facing large medical bills, significant lost wages while recovering or lingering problems such as some form of disability should contact a Virginia personal injury attorney to discuss their legal options for receiving compensation. Sorting out insurance issues following multivehicle wrecks can prove difficult. Having an experienced plaintiff’s lawyer working only in their best interest can prove invaluable to victims of such crashes.
